As of February 2023, The Juarez Lab ( the University of Maryland-Baltimore (Baltimore, MD) is seeking to hire a contractual Laboratory Research Assistant. The candidate will assist with the development of projects focused on determining how cellular excitability regulates emotional states and decision-making behaviors for natural and drug reward. The Juarez lab uses circuit dissecting ex vivo and in vivo electrophysiology, fiber photometry, viral based CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing, and methods to manipulate neural activity in animal models of stress and substance-use disorders. Ability to handle mice is required. Background knowledge or experience in mouse handling/behavior, neurophysiological recordings, molecular biology, and/or computational modeling is preferred, but not required. The Juarez lab is dedicated to the career development of scientists in academia or other specialties. Primary Duties:
-Design, perform, and analyze experiments.
-Present data at group meetings.
-Assist with management of mouse colony.
-Assist with lab supply purchasing and administrative duties.

Qualifications
 Education: Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or field of study related to the research of the laboratory.

Experience: At least two (2) years of experience in a laboratory/research setting that includes experience in data entry and/or word processing and/or data analysis and using spreadsheets and statistical analysis preferred. Research experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, and tissue culture techniques preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently. Hiring Range: $45K – $48K (Commensurate with education and experience)
