Social Worker – Behavioral Health – Eating Disorders/2S


In this role, you will be working on a 17 bed acute psychiatric eating disorder unit, help individuals with eating disorders work toward recovery in a comfortable and supportive environment. This is a mixed gender unit with serving adolescents and adults. The unit features the expertise of faculty members of the two world-renowned academic medical centers and teaching institutions. Patients benefit from the most recent clinical research findings and advances in the treatment of eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia nervosa. The goal is to help patients achieve and maintain healthy eating habits and a healthy weight. You will also spend some time working in a general psychiatric unit.

This is a full-time day shift position located at NewYork-Presbyterian/Westchester Behavioral Health Center.

Preferred Criteria

  • Knowledge of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Required Criteria

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW)
  • Licensed Masters Social Work (LMSW) by the state of NY within 1 year of hire
  • Limited Permit (must supply exam date prior to start of employment)
  • Fieldwork or previous experience in a psychiatric setting
  • Form a therapeutic relationship with patients and maintain a neutral therapeutic stance
  • Knowledge base of bio-psychosocial model, Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV (DSM-IV) diagnoses, criteria for treatment of different diagnoses in an acute care setting, behavioral risk factors and of the impact of mental illness upon individual and family functioning
  • Competency in individual, family and group treatment modalities and treatment techniques appropriate to an inpatient treatment setting
  • Conduct initial evaluations and psychosocial assessments and to establish individualized and measurable treatment goals
  • Knowledge base of community and discharge planning resources and processes
  • Effective organizational skills to manage clinical, discharge planning and documentation requirements within assigned LOS of inpatient hospitalization
  • Communicate effectively and to collaborate within an interdisciplinary team; demonstrated self-awareness to identify learning needs and capacity to apply supervisory feedback into practice
