Job DescriptionJob Summary: Responsible for hands-on laboratory work to develop, optimize and troubleshoot analytical methods for testing raw materials and finished products, used by the Dietary Supplements, Food and Pet Nutrition industries which are manufactured or sold by 21 Century Healthcare and its subsidiaries.

Reports To: 

·         Director of Laboratory Services

Essential Functions:

·         Develop and validate analytical methods, including writing up method validation plan, execution of plan, and preparation of methods and validation reports.

·         Lead laboratory team to implement analytical methods.

·         Develop and implement new systems and methods that will improve efficiency and needs in the lab.

·         Perform trend analysis to ensure methodology is sufficient in meeting goals of customers.

·         Troubleshooting of test methods, instrumentation, and perform maintenance of instrumentation.

·         Oversee the proper operation and maintenance of the laboratory instruments and equipment and perform qualification and validations according to SOPs.

·         Write, review, and revise SOPs, Test Methods, and Method Verification Protocols, as needed.

·         Perform data analysis with assigned testing and/or assisting other laboratory personnel.

·         Oversee daily tasks of testing in the lab to ensure analysis is completed as expected and on time.

·         Oversee daily, monthly, and yearly calibrations of the lab equipment, as specified in the calibration matrix.

·         Perform and oversee complex analysis and discuss results with team and management.

·         Perform and review OOS (out of specification) reporting, review corrective actions and preventative actions.

·         Interpret results with a high-level of proficiency and report complex issues to management.

·         Perform regulatory compliance functions, such as for ISO 17025, internal auditing of methods and lab personnel.

·         Perform backup to laboratory management, such as reporting and reviewing documentation and other requested tasks.

·         Participate in the approval and release of testing samples, such as raw materials and finished products.

·         Participate in the stability program, such as writing protocols, approving results, and final report writing and approval. Maintain detailed testing notebook.

·         Adhere to all Good Laboratory Practices, Good Documentation Practices, and Good Hygiene Practices.

·         Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·         Skilled in monitoring, troubleshooting, critical thinking, process control, time management, following through, serving customers, and active listening

·         Demonstrate leadership, attention to detail, orientation to quality, deductive reasoning, problem sensitivity, problem solving, and skilled at decision making

·         Knowledge of food production processing, chemistry, biology, cGMP’s, human resources, and safety of personnel

Education and Experience:

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Minor in Chemistry with 5+ years of experience in a quality control laboratory

·         Accuracy with complex mathematical functions

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

·         Must be able to use Microsoft Office, laboratory equipment or other business-related software
