Job DescriptionThe Dental Assistant supports the dental team in providing compassionate, high-quality oral health care to patients, at a faith based health center with an emphasis on serving underserved or uninsured families. This role includes clinical assistance, sterilization, patient education, and administrative support to ensure smooth and efficient clinic operations.
Position Responsibilities:
· Provide patient care during majority of TNCC hours of operation.
· Guidance for volunteer dental staff, including triage, patient assessment, postop instructions and procedure assistance.
· Prepare treatment rooms and instruments for dental procedures.
· Assist the dentist during examinations and treatments (e.g., passing instruments, suctioning, mixing materials).
· Take dental radiographs (x-rays) as directed.
· Maintain accurate patient records, and charting.
· Maintain patient dental appointment calendar, managing patient phone calls for appt. reminders scheduling and rescheduling.
· Perform infection control duties: sterilize and disinfect instruments, equipment, and operatory surfaces according to OSHA and CDC standards.
· Monitor and restock supplies in operatory and sterilization areas.
· Maintain up to date inventory of non-pharmaceutical dental supplies.
· Help with lab slip forms, consent forms, and referrals.
· Assist and participate in meetings as requested.
