Managing Director / General Manager Promega Deutschland GmbH | Walldorf, Baden-Württemberg | Full-time

Leadership • Science • Culture

About Promega Science is at the heart of what we do. With our high-quality molecular biology products, we support the global life science industry. Founded in 1978 in Madison, WI, USA, Promega now has more than 2,000 employees worldwide helping research and diagnostic institutions advance scientific innovation.

Sustainability matters to us. At our Walldorf site, our employees work in a modern, award-winning building recognized for its innovative sustainability concept. Since 1997, Promega GmbH has served as a subsidiary for Germany, Austria and Eastern Europe.

People are at the center of our culture. We provide an environment where appreciation is lived every day and independent thinking is encouraged. This respectful way of working contributes to the well-being and success of everyone.

What to expect As Managing Director, you will assume overall responsibility for Promega GmbH and its assigned markets. You will lead the company commercially, strategically and culturally, translating local market opportunities, customer needs and global Promega objectives into a clear entrepreneurial direction.

In this role, the Managing Director serves as a key link between Promega Corporation and Promega GmbH and helps implement global and European priorities into local initiatives.

Strategic and commercial leadership

Responsibility for business development in Germany, Austria, Poland and Central Eastern Europe.

Development of sustainable growth strategies together with the leadership team.

Strengthening existing customer relationships, identifying new market potential, and actively monitoring relevant developments in areas such as Genomics, Proteomics, Cell Analysis and Molecular Diagnostics.

Leading and strengthening the organization

Leading and further developing an organization of approximately 170 employees.

Targeted development of the leadership team, promotion of talent and forward-looking succession planning for key positions.

Creating orientation, clear priorities and a way of working in which ownership is taken and cross‑functional collaboration is actively practiced.

Shaping the culture

This role requires a leader who embraces change, builds on the progress already made and provides clear direction as the organization continues to evolve.

Serving as a role model for clear, authentic and respectful collaboration.

Encouraging participation, constructive dialogue and a confident approach to different perspectives.

Emotional & Social Intelligence is a key component of effective leadership: empathy, self‑reflection, relationship‑building and accountability are central to your leadership style.

Management and governance

Responsibility for the proper and forward‑looking management of Promega GmbH.

Steering key performance indicators, budget and cost responsibility, workforce planning, reporting to the shareholders, and ensuring compliance with relevant legal, regulatory and internal requirements.

External representation

Representing Promega to customers, strategic partners, distributors, industry associations and other stakeholders.

Building and maintaining relationships with key opinion leaders, decision‑makers and partners.

Participation in conferences, customer meetings and international leadership meetings. The position requires travel depending on business needs, up to approximately 40%.

Your profile You approach complex situations by asking better questions rather than defaulting to what worked before. You are genuinely interested in being wrong and bring that orientation to the people you lead.

At least 10 years of relevant leadership experience in sales and/or marketing within the life science industry. Demonstrated experience leading teams, steering commercial activities, and successfully developing revenue, market position and customer relationships.

Degree in the life sciences, preferably with a doctoral degree (e.g. Dr. rer. nat., PhD) or an advanced degree, ideally complemented by hands‑on laboratory experience in molecular biology, cell biology and/or protein biochemistry. You understand technical products and applications and can translate scientific context into commercial relevance.

Entrepreneurial and commercial strength. Experience in sales management, market analysis, customer development and cross‑functional collaboration. Ability to set clear priorities, make decisions and deliver results effectively together with the organization.

High Emotional & Social Intelligence. You lead with clarity, reflection and commitment. You are able to engage people, develop them and guide them through change. You listen, communicate openly, bring different perspectives together and address topics constructively.

Excellent German and English skills both written and spoken. Additional language skills relevant to the assigned markets are an advantage.

Strong understanding of corporate leadership & compliance. You bring a solid understanding of business management, budget and cost steering, the GmbH legal environment in Germany, labor law frameworks and relevant compliance requirements. Confident use of digital applications, CRM systems and Microsoft Office is expected. You use AI tools in your own work and can describe specifically how that has changed how you analyze markets and make decisions.
