Facilities Maintenance Electrician (Shipyard)

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Facilities Maintenance Electrician to perform critical electrical repairs, maintenance (both preventative and corrective), new installations, and system modifications across our yard facilities, utilities, power distribution infrastructure, and heavy production equipment.
In this role, you will handle diverse technical challenges on systems utilizing electrical switches, relay logic, and analog controls. If you are an industrial electrician who prioritizes safety compliance and thrives in a rugged, fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you.
Essential Job Tasks
- Inspect & Diagnose: Conduct routine inspections of yard equipment to ensure safe, reliable operations and utilize specialized diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot electrical issues.
- Maintain & Repair: Perform equipment servicing, troubleshooting, and repairs on all utility and electrical distribution systems throughout the facility, as well as production machinery and portable support gear.
- Install & Modify: Execute new electrical installations, upgrades, and modifications to yard facilities, infrastructure, and high-demand production systems.
- Documentation: Complete and maintain required reporting, including work orders, inspection forms, discrepancy sheets, logbooks, and service records.
- Safety & Compliance: Strictly adhere to energy recognition protocols, specialized electrical personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and comprehensive lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures.
- General Duties: Keep work areas clean and orderly (including sweeping) and actively participate in safety, quality, and process improvement meetings.
Qualification Standards
Education & Experience
- Required: High school diploma (or equivalent) AND an electrical trade school certificate OR equivalent hands-on work experience performing industrial electrical repairs.
- Required Experience: Direct hands-on experience working with voltages up to and including 480VAC. (Experience with higher voltages is a major plus).
Technical Skills & Tools
- Ability to autonomously read, interpret, and troubleshoot equipment or systems using electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer documentation.
- Trained and proficient in electrical safety protection equipment, energy recognition, and LOTO.
- Proficiency with electrical test equipment, including voltage meters, current meters, megohmmeters, tachometers, multimeters, circuit tracers, infrared optics, and high-pot testers.
- Familiarity with trade tools and work aids such as conduit benders, soldering equipment, crimpers, pneumatic tools, and material handling equipment (lifts, forklifts, hoists).
Physical & Shift Requirements
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to work comfortably at heights, in full-body positions, and within confined spaces.
- Flexibility to work any shift based on production and shipyard scheduling needs.
- Excellent situational awareness, including the ability to understand written/verbal instructions, read safety regulations, and hear yard warning signals.
Physical Demands & Environmental Factors
- Physical Involvement: Requires regular lifting and carrying of up to 60 lbs. unassisted. Involves repetitive or prolonged walking, climbing, standing, balancing, bending, crouching, and kneeling across all areas of the shipyard.
- Environmental Conditions: Works outdoors more than 50% of the time with constant exposure to varying weather, wind, wet, and humid conditions. Work is performed around constantly moving machinery, high noise levels, vibrations, and in environments that may include dust, fumes, gases, or low ventilation. All required electrical safety PPE must be worn at all times.
