About the Role:

The Drug Court Counselor plays a critical role in supporting individuals involved in the criminal justice system who are struggling with substance use disorders. This position focuses on providing comprehensive assessment, counseling, and case management services to participants in drug court programs, aiming to facilitate their recovery and reduce recidivism. The counselor collaborates closely with judges, probation officers, treatment providers, and community resources to develop and implement individualized treatment plans. Success in this role is measured by the counselor’s ability to motivate clients toward positive behavioral change, ensure compliance with court mandates, and promote long-term sobriety and social reintegration. Ultimately, the Drug Court Counselor contributes to the overall effectiveness of the drug court by fostering a supportive environment that balances accountability with rehabilitation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related human services field.
  • Certification or licensure as a substance abuse counselor as required by the state of employment.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with individuals affected by substance use disorders, preferably within a criminal justice or court setting.
  • Strong knowledge of addiction treatment modalities, behavioral health issues, and community resources.
  • Ability to pass background checks and comply with confidentiality and ethical standards.
