Shape the heartbeat of our Rochester manufacturing campus
As sunrise hits the line, you bring the plant to life—diagnosing control systems, tracing schematics, and keeping production humming. As an Industrial Controls Journeyman Electrician, you’ll install, maintain, and troubleshoot complex electrical equipment so our teams can deliver with speed and quality.
What you’ll do
- Lay out, install, and commission electrical systems and circuitry across industrial equipment.
- Pinpoint and resolve electrical faults in machinery and components to keep downtime to a minimum.
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on plant assets and controls.
- Interpret and work from electrical drawings, ladder logic, and wiring diagrams.
- Champion OSHA and GM safety standards in every task and environment.
- Partner closely with cross-functional departments; participate in continuous improvement.
- Apply creative problem-solving and root-cause analysis to technical challenges.
Qualifications
- Six (6) or more years of relevant electrical experience OR a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Completion in the Electrical trade.
- 18 years of age or older.
- Onsite and schedule flexibility: willing to work day/afternoon/night shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays with short notice.
- Eligible to work in the United States (see legal notices below).
- Comfort working within a high-activity manufacturing environment.
- Current GM employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement should connect with their local HR/LR partner regarding placement opportunities.
Physical demands
- Respond rapidly to safety instructions, alarms, and signals.
- Stand and work for extended durations; occasionally sit during certain tasks.
- Wear required PPE comfortably.
- Navigate busy production areas; drive mobile equipment as needed.
- Bend, twist, kneel, crouch, reach; lift or carry up to 50 lbs. (department-dependent).
Compensation and schedule
This position may be filled as a Journeyperson in Training (JIT) with a pay range of $37.77–$44.06, or as a Journeyperson at $44.96. Final classification and pay are determined by credentials/credentials review and interview performance.
General Motors UAW hourly roles offer competitive pay and benefits, with eligibility for an annual incentive payout for qualified employees.
Work location and mobility
This role is categorized as onsite, requiring full-time presence at a designated GM location.
Relocation and travel expenses are generally the responsibility of the applicant; however, this job may be eligible for relocation benefits.
