Travel Telemetry Technician
Location: McKeesport, PA
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift Details:- Schedule: 3 x 12-hour shifts, Days
- Shift Times: TBD per facility
Role Summary:The Telemetry Technician is responsible for continuously monitoring patients and ensuring appropriate and timely responses to alarms. This includes identifying basic and lethal rhythms, maintaining EKG monitor alarms, and responding promptly as needed.
Key Responsibilities:- Receive shift hand-off report and Telemetry Monitor badge from the previous Telemetry Technician.
- Obtain report from Charge Nurse each shift.
- Print initial EKG strips at the start of each shift and with any change in rhythm. Complete EKG interpretations including: rate, regularity, PRI, QRS, QTI, ST segment, wave form alterations, and rhythm interpretation. Ensure strips are verified by RN.
- Observe all assigned monitors continuously and respond to alarms promptly, including calling Rapid Response Team if necessary.
- Notify Charge Nurse or appropriate RN immediately of significant changes in patient rhythm or condition.
- Perform aviation-style hand-offs during breaks and shift changes to ensure monitors are never unattended.
- Complete all required education and remain current with position-specific requirements.
- For facilities using Amplion/Care Traffic Controller (CTC) systems:
- Coordinate patient care needs and communicate with clinical staff.
- Assign messages and patient requests to caregivers via the clinical dashboard.
- Confirm that messages are addressed and reassign if needed.
- Handle all open messages promptly.
Requirements:- Current Telemetry Technician experience required.
- Ability to identify EKG rhythms and respond appropriately.
- Strong attention to detail, communication, and patient safety focus.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Work Environment:- Hospital-based telemetry unit.
- Monitors a wide range of patients; may interact with patients, visitors, physicians, and staff professionally.
