Position Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable and service-driven Assistant Sommelier to support and elevate the beverage program across GUI and HWARO. This role blends refined floor presence with operational precision, assisting in wine service, maintaining cellar organization, and contributing to a dynamic, evolving beverage experience.

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in wine, a genuine passion for hospitality, and the ability to engage guests with confidence and authenticity. This position requires attention to detail, adaptability, and a deep understanding of how beverage enhances the overall dining experience.

Key Responsibilities
Wine Service & Guest Experience
  • Provide attentive and knowledgeable wine service, guiding guests through selections with confidence and approachability
  • Support the Sommelier and management team in delivering a seamless beverage experience across both à la carte and tasting menu formats
  • Assist with tableside wine presentation, decanting, and proper service etiquette
  • Anticipate guest preferences and tailor recommendations to enhance each dining experience
  • Maintain a strong floor presence, supporting service teams and contributing to overall guest satisfaction
Cellar Management & Inventory
  • Assist in maintaining an organized and accurate wine cellar, including proper storage and rotation
  • Support inventory counts, stock management, and restocking of service stations
  • Receive and organize deliveries, ensuring accuracy and quality control
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all wine-related areas and equipment
Administrative & Program Support
  • Assist in updating wine lists, by-the-glass offerings, and pairing materials
  • Support beverage costing, tracking, and reporting alongside management
  • Help maintain accurate records of inventory, vendor relationships, and ordering schedules
  • Contribute to menu updates, special events, and collaborative dinners
Team Collaboration & Education
  • Work closely with the Sommelier, General Manager, and service team to ensure cohesive execution
  • Assist in training FOH staff on wine knowledge, service standards, and pairing fundamentals
  • Participate in tastings, ongoing education, and development of product knowledge
Qualifications
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a wine-focused role within a fine dining or upscale restaurant environment
  • Strong foundational knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and service standards
  • Experience with formal wine service, including decanting and pairing recommendations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a polished and professional demeanor
  • Ability to remain composed and detail-oriented in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for hospitality and continuous learning
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in Michelin-starred or Michelin-recognized restaurants
  • Formal wine education (WSET, CMS, or equivalent certifications preferred)
  • Familiarity with tasting menu pairings and chef’s counter service
