Barback / Food Runner (Support Staff)
American Sardine Bar has been serving Point Breeze for more than 13 years with creative plates, craft beer from small breweries we know and love, thoughtfully chosen low-intervention wines, strong cocktails, and a vibe that’s unmistakably our own. We’ve grown and polished over time, but at our core we’re still the same neighborhood restaurant and bar where regulars gather and new guests quickly feel at home.
Who We’re Hiring
We’re expanding our team and are looking for Support Staff to join us.
This is a hybrid support role that helps keep both the bar and dining areas running smoothly throughout service. Support staff assist servers and bartenders with food running, drink running, maintaining service stations, clearing and resetting tables, and helping keep the bar stocked and organized.
This is a physically active role that supports service across multiple areas of the restaurant. Our space operates across three levels (basement, first floor, and second floor), so frequent movement up and down stairs while carrying trays, cases, or other moderately heavy items is part of the job.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys staying busy, working as part of a team, and helping maintain the pace of service in a fast-moving restaurant environment.
Food & Drink Running
Deliver food and drinks to tables accurately and efficiently while helping maintain the flow of service.
Dining Area Support
Assist servers by clearing and resetting tables, maintaining organization in the dining areas, and helping guests with basic needs during service.
Bar Support
Assist bartenders by restocking glassware, ice, beer, and bar supplies, helping with keg changes, and keeping the bar organized and prepared for service.
Teamwork
We operate with a pooled-tip system, so support staff are an important part of the team. You’ll work closely with servers, bartenders, and the kitchen to help keep service running smoothly.
Schedule
Expect 2-4 shifts per week, primarily evenings. Some daytime availability is a plus. Our kitchen is open until midnight and the bar until 2am, so late-night and weekend availability are required.
Requirements / Qualifications
At least 1 year of restaurant experience required, preferably in a support role such as food runner, server assistant, or barback
Ability to move quickly and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
Comfortable lifting and moving items such as kegs, cases of beer, bus tubs, and ice
Comfortable working both indoors and in outdoor dining areas, including in warmer temperatures
Our restaurant operates across three levels, so the ability to frequently move up and down stairs while carrying trays or moderately heavy items is required
Dependable and consistent with scheduling and attendance
Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of a busy neighborhood restaurant
Self-motivated and proactive, able to identify what needs to be done and support the team without constant direction
Able to follow sidework systems carefully while also recognizing additional needs during service
Positive attitude, clear communicator, and team-oriented
Able to stand and walk for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
Must be available to work nights and weekends consistently
Training & Onboarding
New hires complete a 4–5 day training program designed to set you up for success, followed by a 60-day probationary period. During this time, you’ll work closely with managers and trainers to learn our systems, standards, and service style.
What We Value
Pride in our food and beverage programs and the experience we create for guests
A team-driven culture where everyone helps each other out
Strong work ethic and attention to detail
Regulars who value what we do, and a neighborhood that has our back
Opportunities to grow within the team over time
We’re an Equal Opportunity Employer and believe good hospitality comes from all kinds of people.
