We are a new restaurant on the square in the historic town of Versailles, Indiana, located in a beautifully renovated 1800s brick building in the heart of town. We are right next to the state park and historic covered bridge. Our mission is to create clean, delicious meals in an inviting space that nourishes both body and spirit. Position Summary

The Cook / Kitchen Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for actively cooking on the line while also helping manage daily kitchen operations. This role works side-by-side with line cooks during service and collaborates closely with the manager and ownership to maintain food quality, efficiency, and team standards. This is a working leadership position — you will be cooking, not managing from the sidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Cook on the line during service, preparing and executing dishes using fresh, from-scratch ingredients
• Lead by example during service and support line cooks in real time
• Ensure consistent food quality, portioning, and presentation
• Cook primarily on stainless steel surfaces (no Teflon; no seed oils)
• Assist with kitchen setup, prep flow, service, and closing procedures
• Manage daily prep lists and station readiness
• Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory management
• Help manage kitchen staffing, scheduling, and shift coverage
• Train, mentor, and support kitchen staff
• Enforce sanitation, labeling, and food safety standards
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen
• Communicate effectively with chefs, ownership, and front-of-house staff
• Accommodate guest dietary needs and special requests when required

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a commercial kitchen
• Proven experience cooking on the line in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with ordering, inventory, and basic kitchen management
• Experience leading and managing kitchen staff
• Strong understanding of from-scratch cooking techniques
• Knowledge of health, safety, and sanitation regulations
• Ability to multitask and lead during busy services
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Skills

• Experience with high-quality plating and food presentation
• Culinary training or formal kitchen education (preferred but not required)
