What You Will DoThe Mechanical Design Engineering Group in Accelerator Operations and Technology Division (AOT-MDE) is made up of mechanical engineers, designers, technicians, and administrative staff whose mission is to provide mechanical engineering support to a wide variety of accelerator technology related challenges in the service of the laboratory's national security mission. AOT-MDE's primary responsibility is the operation and maintenance of the LANSCE Accelerator Facility's mechanical systems. AOT-MDE is also heavily involved in design and drafting of the mechanical systems to support LANSCE accelerator-related projects. AOT-MDE currently uses SolidWorks and PDM Professional as primary CAD platforms.Design/Drafter 4 ($71,200 - $112,900)We are seeking a highly self-motivated and technically inclined Designer/Drafter willing to primarily be a CAD System Admin and secondarily a drafter/designer. The successful candidate's primary job responsibilities include but not limited to specifying computing systems based on individual user needs, setting up new computer and hardware, maintaining contracts for the CAD licenses, installing software on individual workstations, performing CAD system and server upgrades and developing and maintaining standardized CAD libraries and templates, performing design/drafting responsibilities to support the group projects, assisting the CAD and PDM users resolving technical issues. They need to demonstrate the ability to work closely with engineers and designers; interact and communicate effectively with others; stay highly focused and productive for a long period of time and work independently figuring out the solutions to the problems.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.Regular Position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
