Position Title:  Legislative and Political Organizer             Department: Government Relations

Supervisor’s Title: Director of Government Relations            Status: Exempt  

Assignment Location: Headquarters-Based

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The Political Organizer is responsible for coordinating membership activities that support the public policy and government relations objectives as set forth by the Cabinet on Health Policy, Oregon Nurse PAC, the ONA Board of Directors and the Director of Government Relations.  The position represents ONA members in various political coalitions, before the State Legislature, and other public bodies, and assists ONA’s organizing activities with a labor and health policy emphasis. 

HOURS AND TRAVEL:

Hybrid schedules are available as appropriate for job duties and subject to supervisor approval.  This position is based in our Tualatin office with some ability to work remotely. During legislative sessions, the organizer is expected to be in the State Capitol in Salem most weekdays. During election cycles, the organizer will travel to targeted districts. We represent healthcare workers who work across the state in 24/7 facilities. By the     nature of this work, there are times where travel, working nights, and overnight stays are required

QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires the following:

  • Experience organizing volunteers of our membership to participate in public policy advocacy and political campaigns.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in interacting with elected officials, staff of elected officials and other government relations professionals.
  • A baccalaureate degree in related field OR 4 years applicable experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant political experience preferred.
  • Research and reporting skills.
  • Policy analysis and development experience desired.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This is a full-time, exempt position.  The salary is based on applicable years of experience applied to the wage scale outlined in the union staff’s collective bargaining agreement.

 

ONA offers an annual starting salary range of $84,355.60 to $131,019.01 depending on experience.  The total salary range for this position is currently $84,355.60 to $153,981.98 annually.

 

ONA also offers an exceptional benefits package including total employer contributions coverage of cost (100%) of medical, dental and vision premiums, as well as employer paid long and short-term disability and life insurance. Opportunity to enroll in 401K plan after 6 months of employment which includes a 3% employer contribution, with additional longevity contributions after 5 years. Union members are also enrolled in a union pension plan.  Annual PTO is 25 vacation days, 8 personal days and 12 sick leave days.
