Position Summary:

The E&I Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all electrical construction activities associated with utility-scale solar PV projects, excluding substation scope. This role leads field execution of DC and AC collection systems, inverter installation, and associated instrumentation/controls to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications and quality standards. The E&I Superintendent works closely with project management, engineering, and other discipline superintendents to coordinate installation activities and drive successful project delivery in an EPC environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise all electrical construction activities for utility-scale solar projects, excluding substation scope
  • Manage subcontractors and field crews performing DC and MV installation including:
  1. PV string wiring and combiner boxes
  2. Inverter installation (central or string inverters)
  3. DC homeruns and cable management systems
  4. Medium-voltage collection systems (trenching, conduit, cable pulling, terminations up to interconnection point)
  • Coordinate installation and integration of site instrumentation and controls, including SCADA and communication systems
  • Ensure proper installation of grounding systems, bonding, and lightning protection in accordance with design and code requirements
  • Review and interpret electrical drawings, one-lines, wiring diagrams, and specifications
  • Coordinate closely with Civil, Mechanical, and Commissioning teams to maintain schedule alignment and sequencing
  • Monitor field productivity, track installation quantities, and support schedule updates and forecasting
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, including LOTO, energized work procedures, and OSHA standards
  • Oversee quality control for electrical installations, including cable terminations, torque requirements, labeling, and testing readiness
  • Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, ensuring systems are installed and ready for testing (megger, continuity, insulation resistance, etc.)
  • Coordinate inspections with AHJs and third-party inspectors as required
  • Identify and resolve field issues related to constructability, design discrepancies, and material constraints
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, field logs, and documentation

 

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as an Electrical or E&I Superintendent on large-scale construction or energy projects; utility-scale solar strongly preferred
  • Proven experience with PV electrical systems including DC/AC collection, inverters, and MV distribution (excluding substations)
  • Strong understanding of NEC requirements and electrical construction best practices for solar installations
  • Experience managing electrical subcontractors and coordinating multi-discipline field activities
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-lines, and specifications
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, communications infrastructure (fiber, Ethernet), and controls integration
  • Experience supporting commissioning activities and electrical testing procedures
  • Working knowledge of construction management tools (Procore, Bluebeam) and scheduling software (Primavera P6 or MS Project)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced field environment
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred
