The Front of House Manager is responsible for overseeing daily guest-facing operations and ensuring an exceptional dining experience throughout the restaurant, patio, and rooftop. This role serves as the primary leader of the front-of-house team, maintaining service standards, pacing, hospitality, and operational flow while supporting a polished and highly attentive dining environment.

At The Alston, a contemporary French steakhouse led by Chef Jenner Tomaska, hospitality is rooted in precision, warmth, and attention to detail. The Front of House Manager is expected to lead with professionalism, urgency, and genuine hospitality while maintaining the elevated standards of a high-volume, fine dining service environment.

The Front of House Manager leads by example, supports all service staff, manages guest relations, and ensures smooth communication between the dining room, bar, host stand, culinary team, and ownership. They are expected to maintain an active presence on the floor during service, anticipate operational needs, and uphold the restaurant’s hospitality standards at all times.

Front of House Manager Specific Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee all front-of-house operations during service
  • Ensure smooth execution of service standards across dining room, patio, bar and members club.
  • Monitor reservation flow, table pacing, and overall guest experience throughout service
  • Support hosts with seating strategy and waitlist management when necessary
  • Assist servers, bartenders, support staff, and hosts to maintain seamless service
  • Handle guest concerns and service recovery with professionalism and urgency
  • Communicate important reservation notes, VIP details, allergies, and guest preferences to the team
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings and communicate daily service notes and priorities
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and presentation standards throughout all guest-facing areas
  • Supervise opening and closing procedures
  • Ensure proper staffing levels and front-of-house coverage throughout shifts
  • Uphold company policies, service standards, and hospitality expectations
  • Mentor, coach, and hold front-of-house staff accountable for performance and professionalism
Other Functions
  • Be available to step into operational roles as needed to ensure smooth and efficient restaurant operations
  • Support hiring, training, and onboarding of front-of-house employees
  • Maintain compliance with health, sanitation, and food safety standards
  • Assist with inventory, supply organization, restocking, and operational projects as needed
  • Operate POS systems and assist with cash handling procedures when necessary
  • Communicate effectively with culinary and management teams to ensure efficient service execution
  • Follow all restaurant policies, procedures, and standards of conduct
Physical Functions
  • Ability to stand and walk for a minimum of 8 hours or as needed
  • Must be able to exert well-paced and frequent mobility throughout shifts
  • Be able to lift up to 30 pounds frequently
  • Be able to climb and descend stairs frequently
  • Will frequently reach, bend, stoop, carry, and use POS systems and handheld devices
  • Work in both warm and cool environments
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, high-energy environment with elevated noise levels
  • Must be able to tolerate potential allergens including peanut products, egg, dairy, gluten, soy, seafood, and shellfish
Qualifications, Education & Behavior
  • Minimum 2 years of restaurant management or leadership experience in an upscale or high-volume environment
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to remain composed and organized in a fast-paced service environment
  • Strong understanding of hospitality standards and guest relations
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Ability to work holidays, evenings, and weekends
  • Ability to maintain a consistent full-time schedule
