Village Baths is a boutique, hospitality-driven bathhouse in the heart of Greenwich Village, occupying 8,000 square feet within the historic New York Health & Racquet Club—brought back to life by the same founding family. Designed by Dong-Ping Wong (Kim & Kanye’s Calabasas home, Garden Club Grand Cayman), the space blends timeless thermal rituals with refined social energy. A progression of saunas, steam rooms, and pools unfolds around a refined bar and lounge embedded within the thermal areas, anchoring the experience in hospitality, culture, and human connection.
Role Overview
The General Manager will lead all day-to-day operations of VB’s flagship location, ensuring an exceptional guest experience and flawless execution of hospitality standards. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for an experienced operator who thrives in high-volume, design-driven environments and can balance team leadership, financial discipline, and an elevated service culture.
The GM oversees all non-technical aspects of operations (service, staffing, cleanliness, inventory, vendors, and P&L performance) while coordinating with a dedicated facilities team for technical maintenance of pools and thermal systems.
Key ResponsibilitiesGuest Experience & Service Excellence
Uphold VB’s culture of warm, attentive, and detail-oriented hospitality at all touchpoints.
Personally model excellent guest engagement and conflict resolution.
Implement and monitor service standards and SOPs to ensure consistency across all guest interactions.
Operations Management
Oversee all daily operations across reception, lounge, locker rooms, and amenities.
Maintain rigorous cleanliness, organization, and presentation standards across the facility.
Manage scheduling, shift changes, and on-site staff deployment to align with guest traffic patterns.
Conduct daily walkthroughs to monitor ambiance, scent, lighting, music, and presentation quality.
Coordinate with maintenance and technical teams for timely resolution of facilities issues (pools, saunas, HVAC).
Staffing, Recruiting, and Performance Management
Lead all aspects of people management, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training for all hourly and salaried staff.
Build a high-performing hospitality team culture centered on accountability, empathy, and excellence.
Manage scheduling and labor planning in accordance with budget and utilization forecasts.
Conduct regular coaching sessions, performance reviews, and corrective action as needed.
Implement training programs and service refreshers to maintain brand standards.
Serve as the key culture-carrier and mentor for department leads and supervisors.
Inventory & Vendor Management
Manage procurement, inventory tracking, and ordering for all consumables, retail items, and operational supplies.
Maintain relationships with external vendors for cleaning, linen, laundry, and F&B services.
Ensure accurate receiving, storage, and cost control of goods.
Financial Management & P&L Ownership
Own and manage the full site-level P&L, including revenue, labor, COGS, and controllable expenses.
Monitor daily sales, margins, and cost metrics to ensure target profitability.
Develop and manage operational budgets, forecasts, and cost-saving initiatives.
Identify revenue optimization and expense reduction opportunities without compromising service quality.
Partner with the founders and finance team to deliver monthly performance reports and variance analyses.
Leadership & Communication
Act as the operational liaison between the founders, department heads, and on-site team.
Lead pre-shift briefings, weekly manager meetings, and quarterly team updates.
Uphold strong communication channels between departments to ensure alignment and smooth execution.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience as a General Manager or Assistant GM in hospitality, spa, fitness, or upscale experiential retail.
Proven success managing large, cross-functional teams (20+ employees) in high-volume environments.
Demonstrated experience managing a P&L and delivering strong EBITDA performance.
Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Deep understanding of guest service and operational excellence principles.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Comfort working evenings, weekends, and holidays as business demands.
Experience in luxury, wellness, or membership-based settings strongly preferred.
