Description

This position provides the care and cleaning of the pets in the shelter kennels.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to feeding, the physical removal and replacement of the pets in the kennels then cleaning the shelter and kennels per the standard operating procedures.

Examples of Duties

Responsible for all aspects of the care and cleaning on the weekends and holidays, including but not limited to: feeding  the animals in the shelter physically removing the pets from kennels or cages to outside exercise areas rinsing, scrubbing, disinfecting and drying the pet kennels washing, disinfecting the food bowls, toys and beds washing, drying, folding and putting up laundry providing clean water and clean blankets for the pets returning the pets to the appropriate clean kennels assisting the Animal Control Officers and staff with intakes and outcomes, as needed assisting the Animal Control Officers and staff with the administration of medicine, as needed cleaning the shelter offices, bathrooms and outside areas assisting the Animal Control Officers in supervising community service workers and volunteers verifying that every kennel and cage has been cleaned and disinfected per standard operating procedures each day

Typical Qualifications

Ability to gain knowledge of  Divisions' policies, procedures and practices Ability to work effectively with employees, community service workers, volunteers and the general public Ability to interpret and handle routine matters in accordance with administration policies Ability to follow written and oral instruction Ability to recognize different animal behaviors when an animal may be feeling ill Ability to be punctual and dependable Ability to lift and move heavy weight (50 lbs.+) Ability to walk with or carry animals that may be disruptive Must be 18 years or older; high school diploma or GED equivalent
