About Us

Tempura Matsui is a Michelin-starred (One Star) tempura omakase restaurant in Murray Hill. We are hiring a dependable Line Cook for a Chef’s Assistant training , with structured training toward becoming a Tempura Chef.
You will start with zensai (appetizers) and sashimi prep/plating, then progress into tempura ingredient prep and station support as you grow.

Who We’re Looking For (Important)
  • Japanese kitchen experience is strongly preferred (washoku / sushi / kaiseki / tempura).
  • If you don’t have Japanese kitchen experience, you must demonstrate a strong interest in Japanese cuisine and a willingness to learn and work with precision.
Schedule
  • Mon: Closed
  • Tue–Thu: Dinner
  • Fri–Sat: Lunch + Dinner
  • Sun: Open twice per month
    Nights and weekends availability is required.
Responsibilities
  • Support mise en place and service execution (prep, plating, station support)
  • Prep + plating support for zensai and sashimi
  • Assist with seafood/vegetable prep for tempura (portioning, station setup)
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, labeling, storage, and food safety standards
  • Communicate clearly with the team and support teammates as needed
  • Open and close duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • 2-3+ year kitchen experience preferred
  • Strong knife skills and fundamentals
  • Clean, organized, detail-driven, reliable under pressure
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
