Job Summary

We are seeking a Data Center Technician with foundational experience in structured cabling and data center environments. This contract-to-hire opportunity is ideal for individuals who have developed basic field knowledge and are ready to expand their technical skills and responsibilities through ongoing mentorship. The technician will support the installation, maintenance, and testing of structured cabling systems, infrastructure hardware, and data center equipment on projects within the telecommunications and low-voltage industry.

Job Responsibilities

  • Install structured cabling systems, including fiber and copper cable rough-in, routing, and cable dressing.
  • Terminate and test fiber and copper cabling under moderate supervision.
  • Rack, stack, and assist with the installation of network equipment, including server hardware and rack elevations.
  • Install infrastructure components such as ladder racks, fiber trays, cabinets, and related hardware.
  • Interpret and follow basic blueprints, installation standards, and project documentation.
  • Assist with Outside Plant (OSP) fiber installations connecting to data center environments.
  • Receive, organize, and inventory materials and equipment.
  • Assemble hardware components according to project specifications.
  • Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with team members, project leads, and supervisors.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1–2 years of experience in a data center, telecommunications, or commercial structured cabling environment.
  • Knowledge of fiber and copper cabling types, termination methods, and basic cable testing procedures.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard installation practices and tools.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Ability to work on ladders, aerial lifts, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move materials weighing up to 75 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks throughout the work shift.
  • Must possess and maintain basic hand tools, including a multi-bit screwdriver, snips, punch tool, pliers, tape measure, flashlight, tool pouch, and steel-toe or composite-toe work boots.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Work Experience

  • 1–2 years of experience in a data center, telecommunications, or commercial structured cabling environment preferred.
