Description:

For Garden’s Sake is a family-owned garden center and landscaping company, in operation since 1999. We are continually growing, and offer customers a one-stop shop for plants, landscape design/installation, and lawn maintenance services. Working with us allows you to enjoy a beautiful, natural environment every day with teammates that want to see you shine. You’ll be given opportunities to train, learn, and grow to your greatest potential. We prioritize caring for our employees as much as our customers.

Plus, we have resident goats, chickens, and ducks!

THE POSITION:

We are seeking a part-time mechanic to keep our equipment and our crews running. This person will work in conjunction with our full-time mechanic to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various landscaping machinery, equipment, and fleet trucks. Welding and/or fabricating experience a plus! The mechanics will work in a brand new covered garage, with built-in work benches and most of the necessary tools and equipment provided; some supplemental tools may be needed from the mechanics.

This is a part-time year-round position, with work weeks averaging 3 days and 20-25 hours. The specific days and hours are flexible and will be set on a recurring schedule upon hire; weekend day availability strongly preferred. Some schedule fluctuation through different seasons is expected.

This role pays $25/hour to start, with weekly pay. We offer employee discounts at the Garden Center, a matching 401K retirement plan, work-life balance, and advancement opportunities as we continue to grow.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Keep equipment and machinery operating to its fullest by managing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting breakdowns, and performing repairs
  • Manage routine maintenance on fleet vehicles: oil changes, light repairs, etc.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs on smaller equipment: blowers, trimmers, mowers, chainsaws, etc.
  • Ideal candidate would also have welding and/or fabricating experience to repair trailer lights and hitches
  • Assist with maintenance and repairs on heavy duty equipment as needed: skid steers, mini skid steers, mini-excavators, etc.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors or shops for larger or specialized repairs as needed
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance walk-through and catalog work orders
  • Respond to routine and emergency service calls promptly
  • Maintain appropriate service and repair records, and manage shop supplies

REQUIREMENTS:

  • MUST have a valid driver’s license with no major MVR infractions
  • Prior small engine mechanic experience
  • Experience with repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel engines associated with landscape and lawn maintenance equipment
  • Familiarity with brands such as Stihl, Toro, and Caterpillar
  • Industry licensing and certifications a plus
  • Welding/fabricating knowledge and experience a strong plus
  • Able to safely lift and load up to 50 pounds
  • Willing to work outdoors or in semi-climate controlled mechanic garage in all weather conditions and temperatures
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work both as a team or independently
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English; Spanish bilingual a plus
  • Tech savviness and willingness to learn new technology; experience with management software (specifically MaintainX) a plus
  • Good business sense with professional demeanor and proactive sense of urgency
  • Strategic problem solver, organized, and able to multitask and prioritize tasks
  • Responsible, dependable, and trustworthy
