Job Description
The Operational Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day execution of residential new construction plumbing operations. This position oversees field production, manpower, scheduling, quality control, safety, jobsite coordination, and employee accountability.
The Operational Supervisor works directly with the General Manager to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within labor expectations, and to Carrigan Brothers, LLC and builder standards.
The position serves as the primary operational connection between management, dispatch, field personnel, builders, and jobsites. This position will have multiple direct reports requiring both development and mentoring.
Essential Duties
- Manage daily field operations and multiple residential construction projects.
- Coordinate manpower and production with the General Manager and dispatch team.
- Monitor underground, rough-in, top-out, trim, inspection, and punch-list production.
- Ensure crews have the proper plans, materials, manpower, and information.
- Monitor employee attendance, productivity, performance, and conduct.
- Hold plumbers, helpers, and supervisors accountable for production and quality.
- Maintain strong working relationships with builders and jobsite personnel.
- Identify schedule delays and implement corrective action.
- Monitor inspection results, callbacks, rework.
- Enforce company safety policies and jobsite requirements.
- Monitor material usage, equipment, vehicles, and company property.
- Identify labor inefficiencies and opportunities to improve profitability.
- Communicate operational issues to the General Manager before they become larger problems.
- Assist with hiring, training, coaching, and development of field employees.
- Perform other duties assigned by the General Manager.
- Bilingual is preferred. English and Spanish.
Daily Responsibilities
☐ Review manpower and daily production schedule
☐ Confirm crews are assigned to appropriate jobs
☐ Review critical homes and schedule deadlines
☐ Address jobsite issues and builder concerns
☐ Monitor production and labor efficiency
☐ Verify material availability
☐ Inspect work for quality and compliance
☐ Address attendance and employee performance issues
☐ Communicate significant issues to General Manager
☐ Ensure safety standards are being followed
Weekly Responsibilities
- Review upcoming 1–2-week production schedule.
- Identify manpower shortages or excess manpower.
- Review completed production versus expectations.
- Review inspection failures and recurring quality issues.
- Review callbacks and rework.
- Review employee attendance and performance.
- Identify jobs at risk of falling behind schedule.
- Review material and equipment requirements.
- Meet with General Manager to discuss operational performance.
- Develop corrective action plans where necessary.
Authority and Accountability
The Operational Supervisor has authority to:
- Direct daily work assignments and field priorities.
- Reassign manpower based on operational needs.
- Require employees to correct deficient or incomplete work.
- Stop unsafe work and require corrective action.
- Address attendance and performance issues.
- Recommend disciplinary action to the General Manager.
- Recommend hiring, termination, promotion, or reassignment of employees.
- Communicate directly with builders regarding routine field issues.
- Approve routine operational decisions within company guidelines.
Management Approval Required
The Operational Supervisor must obtain General Manager approval for:
- Employee termination.
- Significant pay or compensation changes.
- Major purchases outside established budgets.
- Changes to builder agreements or pricing.
- Major schedule commitments that affect company capacity.
- Significant disciplinary actions when required by company policy.
- Other matters designated by the General Manager.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years residential plumbing experience preferred.
- Previous foreman or supervisory experience required.
- Strong knowledge of residential new construction plumbing.
- Ability to read and understand plumbing plans.
- Knowledge of underground, rough-in, top-out, trim, and final plumbing.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple jobs and crews simultaneously.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to travel between jobsites.
- Ability to use smartphones, tablets, email, and company software.
Work Hours
· Typically, Monday–Friday, with occasional early mornings, overtime, or weekend work as needed to support construction schedules. Utilizing staggard schedule with dispatch team.
