Job Description
Job Title: Staff Accountant
Department: Accounting / Finance
Reports To: Controller or Chief Financial Officer
FLSA Status: Salaried, Exempt
Location: Little Rock, AR
SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the Bank’s accounting and financial reporting functions through preparation, analysis, and maintenance of financial records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulatory expectations applicable to financial institutions.
This position provides meaningful involvement in the Bank’s financial close process, reconciliations, and reporting activities while offering exposure to a wide range of community banking operations, including loans, deposits, investments, and payment systems. The role is designed for individuals seeking to develop long-term careers in bank accounting, finance, or financial management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger.
- Perform and maintain detailed balance sheet and income statement reconciliations.
- Research and resolve reconciling items and account discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Support preparation of internal financial reports and management reporting packages.
- Assist with accounting related to loans, deposits, investments, and funding activities.
- Prepare supporting schedules for regulatory reporting and financial filings.
- Maintain documentation supporting internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Assist with internal audits, external audits, and regulatory examinations.
- Analyze financial data and identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.
- Collaborate with operations, lending, and other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Support special projects and initiatives as assigned by Accounting or Finance leadership.
DEVELOPMENT AND EXPOSURE:
The Staff Accountant role provides exposure to key community banking concepts, including:
- Bank financial statement preparation and analysis
- Loan and deposit accounting fundamentals
- Investment and funding accounting practices
- Regulatory reporting and examination processes
- Internal controls and risk management frameworks
- Community bank balance sheet and earnings management
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required and/or 5 plus years relevant and direct accounting experience
- Understanding of fundamental accounting principles and financial reporting concepts
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and standard office software
- Ability to manage confidential financial information responsibly
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Preferred (Not Required)
- Prior accounting, public accounting, or banking experience
- Exposure to financial institution accounting or regulated environments
- Experience with general ledger or financial reporting systems
