Core Responsibilities
As a Travel Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for delivering comprehensive respiratory care to patients across various hospital departments. Your primary duties include operating and maintaining mechanical ventilation equipment, performing arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, and assisting with intubation and extubation procedures. You will conduct pulmonary function testing, administer respiratory medications, and monitor patient vital signs and respiratory status throughout your shifts.
You will develop and implement individualized respiratory treatment plans under physician supervision, documenting all patient interactions and clinical observations in electronic health records. Collaboration with nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals is essential to ensure coordinated patient care. You will educate patients and families about respiratory conditions, treatment options, and home care protocols when appropriate.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining equipment inventory, performing routine equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols and infection control procedures. You will participate in code blue situations, responding quickly to patient emergencies with appropriate respiratory interventions. Your role may also include participating in quality improvement initiatives and contributing to a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the organization.
Must-Have Requirements
You must hold a current, valid Respiratory Therapist credential recognized by the state of Iowa. Active AARC certification or equivalent is required. A minimum of two years of clinical respiratory therapy experience is essential, with demonstrated competency in mechanical ventilation, patient assessment, and emergency response protocols.
You must be comfortable working in a fast-paced hospital environment and possess strong clinical decision-making abilities. Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. Valid driver's license with reliable transportation is necessary for commuting to the facility.
Non-local candidates are prioritized for this position. You must reside at least sixty miles from the facility location. This travel position requires flexibility and the ability to adapt to a new work environment quickly while maintaining high professional standards.

Benefits and Perks
