*Employment Type:* Part time *Shift:* Evening Shift *Description:* The Women’s and Children’s Educator will provide Childbirth Education to community clients based upon identified objectives in the areas of women’s and children’s health. This colleague will be teaching a 5 week Childbirth Preparation series, every other month, working from 6-9pm. They will teach a Saturday Childbirth Preparation Class every other month form 9am-3pm. Other community education opportunities will be available throughout the year. Since this person will be working independently, having a background in labor and delivery either as a health care worker, educator or birth worker is required. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 1. Associate Degree Required. --- Bachelor's degree or actively engaged in a Bachelors degree program in Nursing, Social Services, Education or health related field preferred; or 3 years of experience in a health care facility with direct patient interaction. 2. Two years of experience teaching and/or facilitation individual, family, or community programs or support groups preferred. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. 2. Utilizes principles of adult teaching and learning appropriate for the needs of the learner and the specific program.3. 3. Develops evidence-based program/course that meets identified community needs, program goals, and service line strategy. 4. Conducts programs/courses in a manner that demonstrates respect for the individual and healthcare providers. 5. Demonstrates ability to facilitate group learning and discussion. 6. Maintains current knowledge of course/subject material related to all or specific Family Center programs. 7. Monitors, tracks, and reports for productivity, individual encounters and community benefit measures. 8. Engages in outreach, marketing and event planning and participation. 9. Basic understanding of projector /video equipment and computer skills with an emphasis on MS Word and PowerPoint. 10. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS: 1. Communicates the research basis for perinatal education and care. 2. Teaches coping strategies for labor and birth. 3. Prepares the labor support person for their role during childbirth. 4. Provides guidance for the postpartum period and breastfeeding. 5.
