Job Duties

This position is focused on supporting teachers, staff, and students with disabilities at VSDB, ensuring technology is accessible, secure, and effective in an educational setting. The role requires strong technical and customer service skills. This position requires the individual to build knowledge, skills, and abilities regarding assistive technology. The position requires the individual to utilize communication strategies and technologies to communicate effectively with individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or visually impaired.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated strong and effective customer service skills, particularly in assisting individuals with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Windows, macOS, iOS, and Chromebook environments.
  • Ability to learn and support assistive technology, including:
o Screen readers (JAWS, NVDA) o Screen magnifiers (ZoomText) o Alternative input devices (adaptive keyboards, Braille displays) o Text-to-speech and speech-to-text applications o Captioning and video relay services
  • Familiarity with network troubleshooting, VPNs, remote desktop support, and wireless connectivity.
  • Experience with Active Directory (AD), password resets, and user access management.
  • Knowledge of standard cybersecurity practices and FERPA compliance in an educational setting when supporting users.
  • Ability to communicate complex IT concepts to non-technical users, including individuals with hearing or vision impairments.
  • Strong documentation skills to update and maintain IT knowledge base and accessibility guides.

Additional Considerations

Preferred demonstrated American Sign Language skills at proficiency level of "Survival" (ASL), as measured by the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview, or agreement to acquire this level of proficiency within three years.
