Greenes leadership. Applications have swelled from slightly more than 5,000 to over 19,000 since 2015; the College launched a $750 million comprehensive campaign, Dare Northward, the largest campaign among all liberal arts colleges and announced an extension of that campaign in October 2023 to $1 billion; the Colleges leaders and innovative programs have an increasingly visible presence in the national media; the city of Waterville is being transformed through a partnership with Colby and more than $100 million in collective investments; the Colby College Museum of Art, one of the finest college art museums in the country, is a destination for study and tourism alike; and faculty research and scholarship have been highlighted by multiple outlets. Current use giving through the Colby Fund supports critical areas of the College including financial aid, unrestricted giving, the Colby Museum of Art, and athletics and recreation and raises $11M+ annually. The College is seeking a highly motivated leadership annual gift officer at an exciting and defining moment in Colbys history. Reporting to the director of family philanthropy, the leadership annual gift officer is responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of Colby College constituents (primarily parents, guardians, and other family members) capable of making gifts to the Colby Fund between $2,500 and $99,999 for current use funds. The leadership annual gift officer will solicit prospective donors and will collaborate regularly with prospect managers across the division to ensure prospects are solicited comprehensively. The leadership annual gift officer carries their own portfolio of approximately 250 individual prospects within specific geographic regions and functions with an emphasis on discovery and qualification. A highly visible representative of the College, the leadership annual gift officer has a deep appreciation for the liberal arts college experience and a strong personal commitment to Colbys core values with a comprehensive understanding of best practices for annual giving engagement. - Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of Colby donors capable of making leadership annual fund gifts toward the Dare Northward campaign, between $2,500 and $99,999.
- Solicit leadership annual giving-level donors directly and by working with department colleagues and volunteers; work includes developing and managing proposals, virtual visits and travel (hitting required number of donor visits per year).
- Qualify donors for potential major gift capacity and interests, noting appropriate background on prospects to funnel to major gift portfolios.
- Participate in execution of events and programs in support of development activities (e.g. Summer Receptions, Homecoming, Reunion), engage key volunteers, and effectively utilize events and other activities to move solicitations forward.
- Serve as a core member of the annual giving team, including conducting peer to peer outreach outside of assigned portfolio and working collaboratively with colleagues during flagship campaigns (e.g. True Blue and calendar year end) throughout the year.
- Work Collaboratively with peers in other fundraising areas to maximize fundraising productivity.
- Bachelors degree or the equivalent in education and experience.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Must be able to effectively both as part of a team and independently.
- Ability to work hours outside of the normal working day (i.e. Nights and Weekends)
- Ability to travel frequently
- Valid drivers license required and must meet the Colleges Fleet Safety Policy requirements.
- Previous fundraising experience with demonstrated success in making direct solicitations and an understanding of the moves management process is preferred.
- To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate confidentiality with regard to employee data, documents, issues, etc., and respect privacy needs of employees and past employees with regard to the same.
- The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required.
- There may be occurrences of employees, past employees, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations.
- While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the office space as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities.
- There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged personal computer use which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor.
- An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds to perform essential position functions.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focus quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasks as well.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds.
