*Middle School Science Teacher – Universal Academy South Campus*

The Middle School Science teacher will design and implement educational curriculum in one or more academic subjects appropriate for students in middle grades (older than elementary school, bridging the gap between elementary and secondary (high school).
*Middle school teacher duties and responsibilities*
· Supervise the behavior of all students in the classroom, throughout school grounds, and on educational trips.
· Plans and develops an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and state and school district curriculum guidelines.
· Designs and presents individual lesson plans in one or more academic subjects using a variety of teaching techniques that appeal to various learning styles and methods.
· Work collaboratively with other teachers and administrators, including special ed teachers and teacher’s aids, to provide individualized support for each student on a regular basis.
· Prepares materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performance.
· Discusses academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students as they arise.
· Monitors students’ progress throughout the year and evaluates preparedness for high school.
· Communicates all progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty and principal.
· Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents.
· Enforces safety and security standards for students, and visitors.
· Collaborate with other teachers in order to share best practices and provide meaningful feedback regularly.
· Modify lesson plans and materials as needed to make them suitable for students’ current learning levels.
· Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in middle grade education.
· Perform related tasks such as sponsoring student activities or organizations.
· Ability to work effectively with diverse staff, parents, and community members
· Action-oriented and adaptable approach to curriculum planning
· Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people

· Complete daily student attendance, enter grades, complete progress reports online
· Complete weekly quiz trackers for collecting data on students’ academic progress.
· Attend quarterly academic data meetings to discuss students’ academic data
· Talk to parents about their children’s progress
· Document parent teacher communication
· Attend weekly professional development trainings
· Monitors hallways, study periods, and lunchrooms with other faculty and staff
· Maintain required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
· State teaching license required.
· Previous teaching experience with middle-school aged children preferred.

· Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people

· Thorough understanding of pedagogy and the best practices of education.

· Ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and individual or collaborative projects and research.
· Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.
· Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.
