This position is central to the missionaries' purpose to “Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.” Language Support Specialists are entry-level, individual contributors who provide language support to in-field groups and assist in developing language curriculum.

Assists in working to resolve issues, answer questions, and provide support to area leaders, mission leaders, language coordinators, and missionaries for missionary language resources, including:

Elicited Imitation (EI) language assessment
Language Self-Assessment (LSA)
In-field language tutoring and mentoring programs
Records interactions, and tracks and reports issues.
Collaborates and coordinates with partners to resolve issues.
Provides support on resources to help missionaries learn the mission language.
Assists with language-learning curriculum and products for pre-MTC, MTC, and in-field training. Some responsibilities include helping to: (10%)
Develop, update, or design language curriculum.
Assist with pilot testing.
Implement adjustments.
Required:
Experience with second-language learning or teaching, including ESL or TESOL
Excellence in communicating professionally and clearly, both verbally and written
Analytical, creative, detail-oriented, and proactive skills, and the ability to work well with ambiguity and pressure
Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Strong ability to cooperate and to give and receive input from others
Strong ability to follow directions and align with leaders
Aptitude for learning and successfully using new software applications
To perform the essential functions, there may be physical requirements such as sitting for long periods or using monitors or other equipment.
Preferred:
Technical writing experience
Familiarity with second-language teaching methods
Experience working with mission leaders, language coordinators, and missionaries
Familiarity with current missionary language resources
Familiarity with current missionary language curriculum
Experience teaching a second language in a professional setting (MTC, university, or high school)
Coursework or experience in curriculum development
