Job DescriptionJob Title: Accounting Manager

Organization: The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation & Annunciation Day School

Location: Atlanta, GA

Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Reports To: Parish Clergy / Parish Council

Works in Conjunction with: Parish Administer

Position Overview: The Accounting Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all financial operations of a vibrant Greek Orthodox Cathedral and its affiliated 2-year-old to 8th grade day school. This position ensures accurate stewardship of parish and school funds, compliance with nonprofit and educational accounting standards, and transparent reporting to clergy, parish council, school board, Metropolis and Archdiocese. The ideal candidate combines technical accounting expertise with a deep appreciation for Orthodox Christian mission, community service, and family-centered education.

Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting

Manage full-cycle accounting including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, payroll, and fixed assets.

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow) for clergy, parish council, school board, Metropolis and Archdiocese.

Prepare budget with Parish Treasure and, once approved implement, track and report budget to actual performance on a regular basis. Monitor annual operating budgets (~$2M–$5M combined) in collaboration with the clergy, parish administrator, and Head of School.

Conduct variance analysis and present financial performance reports to leadership and finance committees.

Preparation of restricted fund financial reports and associated files in accordance with Parish & School-Specific Duties

Track restricted and unrestricted funds (e.g., stewardship pledges, festival proceeds, candle sales, memorial donations, tuition, grants, capital campaigns, etc.).

Manage tuition billing, financial aid, and scholarship programs for the 2 year old to 8th grade school (including compliance with state voucher or scholarship programs, if applicable).

Oversee Annual Atlanta Greek Festival and fundraising accounting, including cash handling, vendor payments, and revenue reconciliation.

Coordinate annual Archdiocese assessment calculations and submissions.

Compliance & Audit

Ensure compliance with GAAP, FASB nonprofit standards, IRS 990 filings, and state education finance regulations.

Coordinate annual independent audit and implement audit recommendations.

Maintain internal controls, segregation of duties, and fraud prevention protocols (especially for cash-heavy parish operations).

Payroll & Benefits

Process bi-weekly payroll for 50–80 employees (clergy stipends, lay staff, teachers, custodians) using ADP, Paychex, or similar.

Administer benefits (health, retirement, workers’ comp) and ensure Archdiocese clergy pension compliance.

Systems & Technology

Maintain ACS, QuickBooks (Desktop/Online), Blackbaud Financial Edge, or similar church/school management software.

Oversee point-of-sale systems for festival/bookstore and tuition management platforms (e.g., FACTS, Smart Tuition).

Team Leadership

Supervise 1–2 accounting clerks/bookkeepers and seasonal festival staff.

Train parish and school staff on expense reporting, purchase orders, and donation tracking.

Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

5–7 years of progressive accounting experience; nonprofit and/or school experience strongly preferred.

spiritual community of 500 families, served by two full-time Priests, staff, and dedicated volunteers. Our 2-year- Proficiency in ACS, QuickBooks, Excel, and financial reporting.

Experience with fund accounting, restricted gifts, and UPMIFA compliance.

Knowledge of payroll, benefits, and HR compliance.

Preferred

CPA or CMA certification (or active pursuit).

Experience with Blackbaud, FACTS, or church management software (e.g., ACS, Realm).

Familiarity with Greek Orthodox parish operations, festival accounting, and Archdiocese reporting.

Bilingual (English/Greek) a plus but not required.

Personal Attributes

Practicing Orthodox Christian in good standing (or willingness to respect and uphold Orthodox ethos) preferred but not required.

High integrity, discretion, and stewardship mindset.

Excellent communication skills for presenting to non-financial audiences (e.g., parish council, PTA).
