Job Description:If you are a Design Engineer professional seeking an opportunity to grow, Copeland in Sidney, OH has an exciting opportunity for you! We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior/Lead Design Engineer to join our Commercial/Residential Air Conditioning Group. As a Senior/Lead Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in handling
New Product Design (NPD) projects, leading project teams, mentoring team members, developing design concepts, crafting 3D models and 2D drawings, as well as performing analysis to qualify designs. Additionally, you will supply the development of next-generation design technology, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and play a key role in building a world-leading design team. We are looking for a candidate with outstanding communication and collaboration skills, strong technical and analytical abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and as a team leader.
As a Senior/Lead Design Engineer, You Will: Manage and lead NPD projects, including clearly understanding market requirements, defining project scopes, forming project teams, running project schedules, and ensuring delivery of industry-leading products.
Lead NPD teams to complete assigned design projects. Encourage teams to develop design concepts to meet driven product design specifications. Supervise the entire NPD design process in alignment to Copeland's design policies and standards, including the development of 3D models, creation of 2D drawings, material selection, and proposal of effective manufacturing and assembly procedures for competitive products.
Perform FEA simulations (static, dynamic, thermal, fatigue) to ensure structural integrity, performance, and reliability. Conduct CFD analyses to evaluate thermal management, airflow, pressure drops, and fluid behavior. Coordinate design activities and maintain efficient communication with all relevant customers, including suppliers, Project Engineering, Procurement, Advanced Manufacturing, Scroll Machining, Reliability, Quality, and plant teams.
Support the development of next-generation design technologies. Initiate, lead, and support Kaizen and other activities for continuous improvement. Required Education, Experience & Skills:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field5 years of experience in design engineering3 years of experience performing FEA and CFD analyses on mechanical systems
Proficiency in CAD software (NX, Solidworks, Creo or others)Strong experience with FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, SolidWorks Simulation).Strong experience with CFD tools (e.g., ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, SimScale).Solid understanding of engineering principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work independently and as a team leader
